Multifunctional robot hands
Unitree Dex-serie
Where robotics becomes truly human
Hands are among the most technologically complex parts of a humanoid robot. Walking, navigation and balance are essential, but it is in the hands that precision mechanics, motor control, force control, sensor technology, vision and artificial intelligence come together.
With different grippers and multifunctional robot hands, a Unitree humanoid can be matched to the work it actually has to do: from powerful material handling to delicate manipulation, teleoperation and collecting data for new AI models.
The hand is ultimately where intelligence turns into physical work: and where a humanoid changes from a moving robot into a real working robot.

From industrial gripper to five-finger robot hand
Unitree develops several types of hands and end effectors. Dex1-1: powerful two-finger gripper for industrial handling, with adjustable gripping force and a version with integrated camera. Ideal for reliable pick-and-place, sorting and material handling. Dex2/5: compact five-finger hand with tendon drive. A light, robust solution for general grasping tasks where a human hand shape helps. Dex3-1: advanced three-finger dexterous hand with 7 degrees of freedom and extensive pressure sensing, so the robot can position its fingers precisely and gather information about object contact. Dex5-1: the most advanced five-finger Unitree hand, with 20 degrees of freedom and extensive tactile sensing. Built for highly precise manipulation, embodied AI, reinforcement learning and the further development of human-like robot skills. This makes it possible to choose a different balance of force, speed, precision, flexibility and sensory feedback for every application.

02
Why the hands matter so much
A humanoid can walk autonomously through a factory, recognise objects and understand its surroundings. But real economic value only appears once it can interact reliably with that environment. Opening a door, picking up a part, plugging in a connector, using a tool or positioning a fragile product takes far more than a single motion. The robot has to see, position, grasp, modulate force, feel what is happening and continuously correct its movement. That is exactly why multifunctional robot hands are so important for the next generation of humanoid robots.

03
An intelligent end tool
Unitree leads here by bringing mechanics, compact actuators, force control, tactile sensors and software development ever closer together. The hand becomes not a simple gripper but an intelligent end tool with which the robot can learn, feel and carry out increasingly complex work.
